The Coastal Region

The location of the Coast Region or Lowlands is to the west side of the country from north to south, by the Pacific Ocean. Its temperature is mostly warm (between 22-34 C) with variations during the year.
The most characteristic feature is the diversity of races because of the migration of foreigners and inhabitants from different zones of the country. This has made crowded Guayaquil (most important city of the region and number one port in Ecuador) the most populated city in the country with about 2'000.000 inhabitants.
The five provinces that are part of this region (El Oro, Guayas, Los Ríos, Manabí and Esmeraldas) form four main types of landscapes that make nice Tourist Spots. There are beaches (some of them crowded by tourists and some almost virgin), Dry or Tropical Forests (some make Wildlife Protected Areas), Mangrove Swamps and Agriculture Plantations (number one activity of this region and also becoming tourist important since trips to haciendas are being made in the last years).
The Coast has enough tourist infrastructure to welcome visitors in comfortable and nice lodges, specially at its main cities and resort towns.
